GDC Kathua organizes One Day Workshop on “Virtual Labs”
Virtual Lab Nodal Centre (VLNC), which was established by IIT Bombay in Govt. Degree College Kathua, organized a workshop on “Virtual Labs”. A large number of students and faculty members participated in the event. Prof. Rakesh Singh, Head Department of Chemistry, GDC Kathua and Dr. Mudasir Roshan, Nodal Coordinator VLNC, GDC Ganderbal were the resource persons in the event.
Prof. Sumanesh Jasrotia, Principal, Govt. Degree College Kathua welcome the resource persons, students and dignitaries. In his welcome address, he congratulated all the stakeholders of the college for establishment of Nodal Centre for virtual labs (VLNC) at GDC Kathua in association with IIT Bombay. He said that such type of initiative is very much required at this time of industrial 4.0 revolution which requires learning towards internet of things, digitalization, machine learning etc. and for that we need to be creative and critical. He appreciated the efforts taken by the virtual lab team of GDC Kathua and expressed that it is going to help students as well as faculty in better understanding about this burning topic.
Dr. Pankaj Gupta, Nodal Coordinator, VLNC in his introductory talk gave a detail of various feature, objectives and advantages of Virtual Lab which is a mission project developed under the aegis of National Mission on Education through ICT, MHRD. He said that with the rapid growth of information and communication technologies (ICT), virtual laboratories are becoming an integral part of science and technical curriculum. All science teachers as well as students are encouraged to use the virtual labs as add on to the physical labs. He said that Physical distances and lack of resources often make it difficult to perform experiments, especially when they involve sophisticated instruments.
The Ist technical session which includes demonstration and hands on session of simulation based experiments in Chemical Sciences was conducted by resource person, Professor Rakesh Singh, Head, Department of Chemistry, GDC Kathua. He elaborated the virtual lab experiments based on Molecular Absorption Spectroscopy and Acid Base Titration developed by IIT Hyderabad & Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham very efficiently & responded to the queries raised by students. He explained to students, how the simulations can be used to perform experiments which otherwise involve use of costly instruments.
2nd Technical Session which was conducted virtually by Dr. Mudasir Roshan, Nodal Coordinator VLNC, GDC Ganderbal involves demonstration of Biosciences practical’s such as simulation based experiments on pH, Agarose Gel Electrophoresis & light microscope developed by Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham University.
The proceedings of the event were conducted by Prof. Neha Mahajan, Head, Department of Biotechnology. And an impressive vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Anupama Arora, Associate Professor in Chemistry, GDC Kathua.
The whole event was organized under the overall supervision of Prof. Sumanesh, Principal, GDC Kathua and by the combined efforts of Prof. Rakesh Singh, Head Department of Chemistry, Dr. Anupama Arora, Dr. Pankaj Gupta (Organizing Secretary), Dr. Ambica, Dr. Upasna Andotra, Dr. Roshan Lal, Prof. Neha Mahajan, Prof. Rahul, Prof. Anoop (Co-organizing secretary), Prof. Shiv Kumar, Prof. Surbhi & Prof. Bharat.
