Korea Maritime & Ocean University: Opened the “next-generation maritime policy leader training academy credit acquisition course” jointly with Woori University, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, and the Korea Maritime Foundation

Our university has been selected for the “ Next-generation maritime policy leader training academy ” project sponsored by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and the Korea Maritime Foundation, and from the second semester of 2022 , an educational program linked to the acquisition of credits will be conducted . This is a credit acquisition process for nurturing next-generation maritime policy leaders in the field of maritime and fisheries, and its main purpose is to discover and nurture future marine talents .



In order to build a maritime powerhouse through maritime policy, government-level efforts are important, but it is also necessary to reinforce publicity on the importance and potential of the sea at the general level . In addition, it is important and urgent to expand the base of maritime manpower by inducing the people’s maritime-oriented thinking .



Accordingly, our university, as one of the expanding bases of experts in the field of maritime policy in Korea, first targets undergraduate students in maritime policy , port policy , maritime development policy , fishery policy , maritime safety and security policy , maritime culture, marine tourism policy , marine environment policy, etc. Maritime policy literacy education is provided through the education of top experts in the field .



The lecturers consist of professors at Woori University and the best maritime policy experts in Korea from Dongsam-dong maritime cluster institutions such as Korea Maritime and Fisheries Development Institute , Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology , and National Maritime Museum .



This project is jointly promoted by the Industry-University Cooperation Foundation , Liberal Arts Education Center , and Teaching and Learning Development Institute, and the curriculum is led by Graduate School Dean Yun-cheol Lee .



The academic calendar is the same as the undergraduate academic calendar and is conducted face-to-face and non-face-to-face for 2 hours per week for 15 weeks after the start of the semester . As a two -credit liberal arts elective, this class is evaluated in a pass/fail method .



The target audience is university students , graduate students , government officials , marine and fisheries workers , and the general public .



The first class will be conducted in a mixed face-to-face and non-face-to-face format for undergraduate students from the second semester of this year .



Dean Yoon-cheol Lee of the Graduate School said, “ In the future, this project will be carried out through the credit bank system in the field of maritime policy to acquire college and graduate credits , transfer and graduate school credits , and public worker training courses, as well as support for maritime policy planning.
