Ural Federal University: University Joins ESports Finals in the Ural

Pavel Krekov, the Vice-Governor of the Sverdlovsk Region, announced at the meeting with Dmitry Smith, the Head of the Russian eSports Federation, at UrFU that the proposal of the Russian eSports Federation to hold in Ekaterinburg the final of eSports Championship of BRICS countries or other competition of international level is supported by regional authorities.

The University and the Federation signed an Agreement, the signing ceremony of which took place before the meeting with the university team in eSports – the winners of the sixth season of the All-Russian eSports Student League.

“ESports is one of the most important areas for our students. We continue to build up competences in computer science and information security: now we have 5,376 students enrolled in the IT field, and we plan to enroll another 2,500 future IT students this year, taking into account the increased budget admission of 1,597 places,” emphasized Victor Koksharov, Rector of UrFU.

Dmitry Smith noted that UrFU is one of the country’s leading centers for training IT specialists and, in particular, is a recognized leader in the development of education in the field of artificial intelligence. According to the Head of the Russian eSports Federation, the university’s experience could form the basis for creating a regional representative office of the federation in the Sverdlovsk region.

Victor Koksharov added that the establishment of a eSports Center is also among the plans of the new university campus in the Novokoltsovsky District in Ekaterinburg, and holding major international competitions in the city gives a stimulating effect to the development of the area and the territory.
