Guest Lecture Series at Department of Political Science
Aligarh: Subject experts traced the development of research on information and communications in relation to trends in social sciences and a multitude of exciting opportunities in the ‘Eminent Guest Lecture Series’ held at the Department of Political Science, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) on December 3.
Speaking on Social Sciences in the Information Age’, Prof Akhlaque Haque (Department of Political Science and Public Administration, University of Alabama, USA) discussed the complex social nature of the human enterprise as it relates to information technology usage in decision-making, social justice, and democracy.
He provided an understanding of how technology is driving many of our decisions in public policy and administration and shared his research on social inequality and surveillance of the population.
Delivering a talk on ‘Career Opportunities in Political Science, Public Administration and Human Rights’, Prof K M Baharul Islam (Chairperson, Centre of Excellence in Public Policy and Government, IIM Kashipur) spoke about employment opportunities in state and local governments, law, business, international organizations, associations, and non-profit organizations, campaign management and voting, journalism, elections politics, research, university and college education.
He urged students to also pursue some value adding courses along with their regular courses.
Presiding over the programme, Prof Mirza Asmer Beg (Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences) discussed how a career in political science allows students to initiate change in policy making, analysis as well as at the academic front.
“Careers in social sciences like political science, public administration and human rights are opportunities to make major differences in society. Students can be a part of jobs that look after the issues of government, society and public policies”, said Prof Iqbalur Rehman (Chairman, Department of Political Science).
