University Of São Paulo Former Dean To Be Secretary Of Science, Technology And Innovation

The former dean of USP, Vahan Agopyan, will be the new secretary of Science, Technology and Innovation in the management of the elected governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas. The announcement was made this afternoon, December 23rd.

Agopyan was USP’s dean from 2018 to 2022. He is a civil engineer graduated from the Polytechnic School (Poli), with a master’s degree in Urban Engineering and Civil Construction from the same institution and a Ph.D. from the University of London King’s College. Professor at USP since 1975, he was deputy director and director of Poli; director-president of the Technological Research Institute of the State of São Paulo (IPT); Coordinator of Science and Technology at the State of São Paulo Development Secretariat and vice-president of the International Council for Research in Innovation in Building and Construction. Agopyan was Pro-Rector of Graduate Studies at USP, from 2010 to 2014, and Vice-Rector of the University, from 2014 to 2018.
