National Workshop Inaugurated at the Department of Zoology

Aligarh : A nine-day national workshop on drosophila as a research model sponsored by the SERB-Accelerated Vigyan, was inaugurated at the Department of Zoology, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).

The Chief Guest, Prof. Pradip Sinha from IIT Kanpur, said he was fond of visiting AMU and was delighted to see the impressive progress made by the university in the Life Sciences. He highly commended the efforts taken by the event organizer and emphasized the need for organizing more such workshops in the future.

Speaking on occasion, Prof. Tariq Mansoor, AMU Vice-Chancellor praised the initiative taken by the organizers of the workshop for training the participants to conduct research using Drosophila and highlighted the importance of such endeavors by the faculty members.

The Vice-Chancellor, the Chief Guest and other dignitaries also unveiled the Laboratory Manual for the National Workshop.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Prof. Mukhtar Ahmad Khan, Chairperson, Department of Zoology, and event organizing chairman, reiterated the workshop’s importance for the participants who will learn various techniques for using Drosophila as a research model.

Prof. Mohammad Afzal (Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences) briefly described the high achievements of the Faculty Members and research scholars of the Faculty of Life Sciences in general and the Department of Zoology in particular.

Dr. Yasir Hasan Siddique (event organizer) said he was glad to see great enthusiasm shown by workshop participants to learn new research techniques. He proposed the vote of thanks.
