The Minister of Education, Marco Antonio Ávila , and the executive secretary of the Educational Reactivation Plan , Joaquín Walker, headed this Thursday the first formal session of the Council for Educational Reactivation, a body made up of 23 experts, academics, and social representatives linked to the educational world. , both national and international, which will have the mission of contributing to the Mineduc Educational Reactivation policy , with a focus on re-engagement and assistance, strengthening learning and coexistence and mental health.

“This is a great country challenge where all wills must come together, with a transversal representation and what better than to do it in our own home, the Ministry of Education, where we are going to meet to have a final report with public policy recommendations. For this, as a minister and as Mineduc we are absolutely willing to accept and agree, so that various actions are incorporated into our Educational Reactivation Plan”, explained Minister Ávila.

For his part, the executive secretary of the Educational Reactivation Plan, Joaquín Walker, pointed out that “we are excited to show the commitment of the members of the council, who have made themselves available to work intensively during the coming months to generate proposals for educational reactivation. In particular, we appreciate the encouragement to speed up the schedule and dedicate more session hours. This demonstrates the sense of urgency and availability of the counselors to address the cause of the country that brings us together.”

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) will act as the technical secretariat that will guide the council during the process. Given this, the director of UNESCO’s regional office for Education for Latin America and the Caribbean, Claudia Uribe, pointed out that “we will be working to guarantee that all voices contribute to the work that lies ahead, and that we can support and make the procedures that are required. For this reason, from Unesco we greatly value the Educational Reactivation Plan of the Mineduc and the creation of this council that brings together the voices of experts and organizations of great diversity to guarantee a broad dialogue.

For his part, Rector Ignacio Sánchez pointed out that this first formal and work session of the commission was very productive, in the sense that some decisions could be made in the way of working, in the frequency, in the need to have early answers , in particular, in the return and re-engagement of students who had been outside the educational system, for which there was an agreement to meet in February, either in person or remotely, to have some proposals in March .

In addition, he warned that “there is a great commitment from the members of the commission, there is a great sense of urgency to contribute to this educational reactivation commission, and the greatest willingness to work together to make proposals that are beneficial to the country, particularly for the students”.

Meanwhile, the recently assumed president of the Association of Regional Governors, Ricardo Díaz, emphasized that “I am a teacher and because of my vocation I am very interested in working to reactivate education in our country. As governors, we are going to contribute with our territorial vision so that this transversal policy includes the diversity of our regions and the diverse needs that arise from the territories”.

At the launch, President Gabriel Boric reaffirmed that education is a priority for the government and called for contributions from different spaces to address the effects of the pandemic on the educational system.

In this line, the counselors will participate in the space to generate diagnoses and recommendations together, contributing from their different points of experience in education, as well as in the territories.

The next work session will be held at the end of February and thereafter they will be held every two weeks, with the aim of presenting a report at the end of April. During this period, the council will study and discuss the three areas of work of the Educational Reactivation Plan: Coexistence and mental health; strengthening learning; and assistance and re-engagement.
