AMU doctors organize cardiac screening camp for children at District Hospital, Hardoi

ALIGARH : A screening camp for heart defects in children registered under Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakaram (RBSK) was conducted by Aligarh Muslim University doctors at District Hospital, Hardoi.

“Sixty-two children were found to have congenital heart defects and were referred to the Interdisciplinary Pediatric Cardiac Centre (IPCC), J N Medical College, AMU for further workup and necessary cardiac surgery/interventions”, informed Dr. Shaad Abqari, Nodal Officer, IPCC, who, along with his team members and support staff conducted a screening camp. Echocardiography was performed on more than 500 children registered in the camp.

The camp was organized on the request of the CMO, Hardoi District Hospital to the Principal and CMS, JN Medical College, AMU.

The team of doctors included Dr. Mohd. Moaaz Kidwai, Anwar Siddiqui, DEIC-COE Manager, and Ibadullah Khan, Data Entry Operator (IPCC).

Complex cardiac surgery and intervention are done free of cost at IPCC with financial support from the National Health Mission (NHM), Government of UP, and Government of India. AMU’s Pediatric Cardiac Unit is only unit in public sector hospital in Uttar Pradesh, providing a ray of hope to children and parents from marginalized section of society.

In a short span of about four years, the unit registered 2584 children with heart defects and performed1042 complex cardiac surgeries/ cardiac interventions, despite the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown.
