Junior Resident and Junior Research Fellow Get Best Paper Awards

Aligarh: Dr S Zeeshan Ahmad Hashmi, Junior Resident and Mr. Mohd. Asaad, Junior Research Fellow, Department of Microbiology, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, & Hospital (JNMCH), AMU received Prof Archana Ayyagari Junior Scientist Best Paper Award in the field of antimicrobial resistance, and Prof Asha Mathur Best Poster Award respectively, in the XVIII Annual Conference of Indian Association of Medical Microbiologists UP-UK Chapter held recently in Aligarh.

The topic of the research Paper of Dr. Zeeshan Ahmad was “Comparison of Xpert Mtb/Rif Assay and Genotype MTBDR plus DNA Probes for detection of Mutations associated with Rifampicin resistance in pulmonary Tuberculosis samples.”

In his research Dr. Zeeshan compared the drug resistance and mutational patterns in the pulmonary samples of tuberculosis by Xpert MTB/RIF Assay and Genotype MTBDR plus DNA probes.

His paper was co-authored by Dr Nazish Fatima, Prof Mohammad Shameem, Dr Adil Raza and Mohd Asaad.

The research paper by Mr Mohd Asaad entitled “APRI and Fib-4 As biomarkers for evaluating chronic liver disease in HIV-HBV co-infected and HBV mono-infected patients”, stressed on the importance of FIB-4 and APRI scores as non-invasive markers for assessing liver fibrosis.

The co-authors of his research were Dr Hiba Sami, Prof Haris M Khan, Dr Syed Haider Mehdi Husaini, Dr Parvez A Khan and Dr Nazish Fatima.

Congratulating Dr Zeeshan, and Mr. Mohd. Asaad, Dr Nazish Fatima (Chairperson, Department of Microbiology), said such presentations and awards motivate other students and faculty members to represent the department at state and national level.
