“It’s the work of Journalists to humanize society in different facets of Art and Culture”: Dr. D. P. Sinha
New Delhi: Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, Media Centre and Kalanidhi Division held the concluding day of “Workshop on Art and Culture Reporting” at Umang conference room of IGNCA. The prominent speakers on the final day of the workshop included Padmashri Daya Prakash Sinha, Sahitya Akademi Award Winning Playwright, Arts Administrator, Arts Scholar, Former IAS Officer and Trustee, IGNCA, Prof. (Dr.) Ramesh Chandra Gaur, HoD, Kalanidhi Division, IGNCA and Director, National School of Drama. The other speakers who spoke on different topics at the workshop included Prof. Anubhuti Yadav, IIMC, New Delhi, Shri. Nimish Kapoor, Vigyan Prasar Sr. Scientist, Department of Science and Technology, Ms. Niyati Verma, Director, Public Policy and Outreach at Koo and Ms. Nanu Bhasin, Additional DG, PIB. The guests were felicitated by Dr. P. Harsha Bhargavi, Assistant Director (Public Relations) NGMA, New Delhi.
Daya Prakash Sinha in the valedictory session of the workshop said that it is necessary for the journalist or the reporter to know art and culture and also the artist to bring art in its holistic aspect to the people. He reiterated that it is the work of the journalist to humanize the society in the arts and culture and its various dimensions like music, painting and literature. He further added that the journalist should go in all directions for the good of all. Prof. Ramesh Chandra Gaur while speaking at the valedictory session said that our minds as a society is embedded in celebrity culture, but that should not be the case. He concluded by saying that one should put effort in knowing the subject and to be a specialist of the field one need not go back to school.
The final day of the workshop began with a screening of the film “Kashi Pavitra Bhugol” which is directed by Deepak Chaturvedi. The main objective of this workshop was to provide understanding and provide vision on how to do better reporting of various dimensions of arts and culture. A total of 12 sessions were conducted spanning over three days. The third day of the session began with the topic “Digital tools for cultural communication” which was delivered by Anubhuti Yadav. This was followed up by a session on the topic “Tackling Misinformation/Disinformation related to Culture and How Culture Reporting promotes Scientific Temper” and it was given by Shri. Nimish Kapoor. Subsequently the session after lunch was on the topic “Effective use of Social Media Platforms for posting News Stories on Art and Culture” which was delivered by Niyati of Koo app. The final session of the workshops ended with a lecture by Ms. Nanu Bhasin on the topic “Role of PIB in Art and Culture Reporting”. In the end summary report of the three day workshop was presented by Ms. Harsha Bhargavi and the workshop ended with feedback from the participants.
