National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela hosted a grand sporting event; “All India Inter-NIT Sports Meet” from 10th Feb-12th Feb 2023. The three-day event brought together 26 National Institutes of Technology from across India, with more than 750+ male and female students participating in Kho-Kho, Swimming, and Football (only male). Food and accommodation for the participants were provided by NIT Rourkela.The inaugural and closing ceremony was graced by dignitaries from NIT Rourkela and Dr. N.K Datta, (Observer of All India Inter-NIT Sports Tournament) from NIT Surathkal. The Director of NIT Rourkela, Prof. K. Umamaheshwar Rao urged the students to engage in healthy competition and show their sporting abilities giving their health the utmost priority. Participating students enthusiastically took part in various events, showcasing their skills and sportsmanship.
NIT Rourkela became the champion for ‘Kho-Kho’ (both male and female). The champion for Football was NIT Arunachal Pradesh whereas NIT Rourkela bagged the second position. The champion for group Swimming-Male competition was NIT Trichy. The champion for group Swimming-Female was NIT Nagpur whereas NIT Rourkela bagged the second position in the same. Overall, the Inter NIT multi-sporting event was a fantastic success, and the participating institutes and students are looking forward to more such events in the future. Vice Presidents of Games and Sports Society-NITR Prof. Ramesh Kumar Mohapatra and Dr. Mayank Yadav along with sports officer Mr. T. R. Patnaik were the organisers of the event.
