IIT Roorkee organized Institute Lecture Series on Gross Environment Product (GEP): An Unmeasured Measure
Roorkee: Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee organized an Institute Lecture Series on ‘Gross Environment Product (GEP): An Unmeasured Measure’ on 12th February 2020 from 5:00 PM onwards at Bose Auditorium, Dept. of Physics.
The environment reports of United Nation on water, air and health are threatening. Soon in India too, 11 big cities will face water crisis. These reports conclude that if by 2050 necessary measures are not taken, the human race will be affected severely. An ethical development principal demands equal emphasis an ecology and economy of the Nation. An ecological growth measure should be defined and reported. This measure will report the growth in forest, richness of soil, recharging of river as well as improved air quality. This collectively can be defined as Gross Environment Product (GEP). GDP along with GEP will be a true growth measure of the Nation and will take the country towards a true sustainable growth. Hence, IIT Roorkee hosted the Lecture Series on GEP.
The speaker of the lecture was Dr. Anil P Joshi, Founder, Himalayan Environmental Studies and Conservation Organization (HESCO). Under the aegis of HESCO, Joshi promoted reseach and development of new environment-friendly technologies for the agricultural sector, tapping the local resource. His emphasis has been on inclusive growth of community by economy and ecology both. The Uttrakhand State Government has adopted his concept of Gross Environment Product (GEP).
