AMU Vice Chancellor releases books on Sir Syed
Aligarh: “Sir Syed’s message has more relevance and it is the need of the hour and I am of the view that the rejuvenated Sir Syed Academy (SSA) team will carry forward the vision and mission of AMU founder to the masses” said the Vice Chancellor Prof Tariq Mansoor in his presidential address at a book release function on Sir Syed as a part of centenary year edition organized by Sir Syed Academy (SSA) at Conference Room, Administrative Block, AMU.
“To educate student about AMU, a booklet on the life of Sir Syed and Aligarh Movement will be distributed to students at the time of admission”, he added.
Four books; “The life and work of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan” by GFI Graham, “History of the MAO College” by SK Bhatnagar (Two books published by SSA), and School Ki Tareekh and Sir Syed Ki Liberal, Secular and Sciencui Tarz-e-Fikr by Prof Iftekhar Alam were released to mark the centenary celebrations of AMU.
Prof Ali Mohammad Naqvi (Director, SSA), introduced the event and paid welcome address to the guests.
Prof Iftikhar Alam, former director of Sir Syed Academy, while introducing Graham’s book, said that Graham’s book was the first compilation of the history of Aligarh Movement and MAO College.
In his brief introduction of SK Bhatnagar’s book, Dr Mohammad Shahid (Deputy Director SSA), highlighted the historical significance. He informed that the book was published by Sir Syed Hall during the Provost-ship of Prof KA Nizami through financial contribution of the students of SS Hall. It is considered as one of the authoritative books on MAO College and Aligarh Movement, he added.
Prof Saud Alam Qasmi (former Director SSA) gave a brief outline of Prof Iftikhar Alam’s books and highlighted the major historical facts. He narrated that Prof Iftekhar’s writing expands on the importance of modern and higher education in the minds of the founders of MAO College. Further, Prof Qasmi congratulated the Director and Deputy Director of SSA for bringing out important books and providing primary sources to understand the historical background and significance of the College and Aligarh Movement.
Dr Mohammad Shahid delivered vote of thanks and Dr Hussain Haider conducted the proceedings of the event.
