Model health clubs to promote health in schools
As part of the implementation of a National School Health Policy, UNESCO supports the promotion of health in basic schools certified as “friends of hygiene” in partnership with the School Health Directorate (DSS) of the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP).
The objective of health clubs in schools is to promote the well-being of the pupils and the teachers, to make the students key players in the transformation of their environment and transform the school as a place of promotion of health and human rights within the community.
A total of 13 “model health clubs” have been established in 3 geographic departments across the country.
For the 2019-2020 school year, several partners including the Knowledge and Freedom Foundation (FOKAL), Doctors without Borders, “Médecins du Monde” are involved in the school and community approach to health and the creation of functional health clubs in some schools.
With this civic initiative, decision-makers want to set up a gateway to quality education and initiate the first step towards an extension of this model.
