National Mathematics Day Celebrated

 

Aligarh : The Department of Applied Mathematics, Aligarh Muslim University celebrated ‘National Mathematics Day’ on December 22, commemorating the birth anniversary of the eminent mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. The event, organized to raise awareness about the significance of mathematics and Ramanujan’s contributions, featured various activities.

Prof. Mohammad Kamarujjama, Head of the Department of Applied Mathematics, emphasized the importance of National Mathematics Day, highlighting Ramanujan’s impact on the field. An ‘Oral Presentation Competition’ was a key part of the celebration, with themes such as “Mathematics for everyone,” “Applications of Mathematics in Science and Technology,” and “Srinivasa Ramanujan: The man who knew infinity.”

The event commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Ghazala Yasmin, followed by a talk on “Ramanujan Conjecture and Numbers” by Guest Speaker Professor MA Pathan, former Chairman of the Department of Mathematics. Professor Pathan shared insights into Ramanujan’s life and contributions, inspiring the audience with personal anecdotes

Mr. Sanjeev Kumar, a Ph.D. student from the Department of Applied Mathematics, secured the first position, while Mr. Aaqib Ayoub Bhat, a Ph.D. student from the Department of Mathematics, secured the second position. The competition was organized by Prof. Nabiullah Khan, with Dr. Zubair Khan and Dr. Ghazala Yasmin serving as coordinators.

Prize distributions were conducted by Professor MA Pathan, and participants were awarded certificates, while winners received position certificates.

Dr. Sabiha Tabassum, conducted the program, which concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Zubair Khan. The success of the event was attributed to the active participation of faculty members, staff, and students.
