Field visit organized for Home Science students

ALIGARH  : The Department of Home Science, Aligarh Muslim University organized a field programme for the B.Sc. Community Science students, who visited the Ahmadi School for the Visually Challenged, Usmani Helping Hands Society and Missionaries of Charity, Mother Teresa’s Home, Prem Nivas, Aligarh. The primary objective of the field programme was to educate participants to adopt proper menstrual hygiene practices and to raise awareness about the concept of good touch and bad touch for girls’ personal safety.

The visiting students helped the visually challenged young students how to deal with the signs and indications of abuse and how to recognize and report instances of inappropriate behaviour. They discussed the proper menstrual hygiene practices at other places of their visit and educated the learners at these centres about various types of menstrual hygiene products, their usage, and the importance of regular changing and proper disposal methods of these utensils.

Dr. Saba Khan, Chairperson of the department, said that the purpose of the visit was to assess the living conditions, care provided, and overall operations of these facilities. The visiting students’ group engaged in discussions and activities throughout the visit and helped the inmates understand the menstrual hygiene practices and personal safety concepts, and heightened a sense of empowerment and confidence among the participants.

Dr. Mariyam Fatima, with the help of research scholars Ghausia, Nabiha and Hira, played a key role in managing the visit.
