Nanjing University School of Medicine Partners with Eastern Theater Command General Hospital for World Parkinson’s Disease Day Activities
On the occasion of the 28th World Parkinson’s Disease Day, Nanjing University School of Medicine and its affiliated Jinling Hospital (Eastern Theater Command General Hospital), Jiangsu Provincial Society of Neuroscience, and Jiangsu Radio, Film and Television Station Wosu International Communication Center jointly held an event titled “Harmonious Symbiosis” A public welfare science popularization activity with the theme of “, Better Life”.
At the event, the Wusu International Communication Center, Nanjing University School of Medicine, Eastern Theater Command General Hospital, and Jiangsu Provincial Neuroscience Society jointly launched a bilingual AI science popularization video for World Parkinson’s Disease Day. The promotional video uses intuitive and vivid visual language to systematically interpret the core symptoms, treatment measures and prevention points of Parkinson’s disease in daily life, so as to enhance the public’s depth of understanding of Parkinson’s disease and awareness of health protection.
This public welfare science popularization activity also received enthusiastic support from Ms. Mei Ting, a famous actress from Nanjing. Ms. Mei Ting expressed her concern and encouragement for patients with Parkinson’s disease through a video message.
Before the event began, students from Nanjing University School of Medicine worked hand in hand with the Parkinson’s disease MDT team and frontline medical staff from the Department of Neurology, Neurosurgery, Radiology and Rehabilitation Department of the Eastern Theater Command General Hospital to launch an event inspired by Van Gogh’s classic works. They held an artistic relay creation and jointly painted the prototype of a work based on “Starry Sky”. They were all exposed to oil painting for the first time and had no painting foundation. However, they did not limit themselves to their own limitations. With the help of oil painting art, they conveyed their concern and care for patients with Parkinson’s disease and demonstrated their sense of social responsibility outside of their professional fields. At the event site, Professor Shen Sunan, Secretary of the Party Committee of Nanjing University School of Medicine, Professor Xie Wei, Chairman of the Jiangsu Provincial Society of Neuroscience, Senior Colonel Li Jianfeng, Vice President of the Eastern Theater Command General Hospital, Zhu Wusheng, Director of the Department of Neurology, Ma Chiyuan, Director of the Department of Neurosurgery, and Wusu International Communication Center Deputy Director Yang Yang, as well as representatives of Parkinson’s disease patients and their families, completed the last part of the “Starry Sky” painting. This creative activity aims to actively call on the whole society to have a deep understanding of the troubles and challenges caused by Parkinson’s disease, and to advocate that everyone give more care and support to patients with Parkinson’s disease, so that they can feel the warmth and strength from society.
It is reported that this painting will be displayed in the functional neurosurgery ward of the Department of Neurosurgery of the Eastern Theater Command General Hospital. It expresses special healing significance to patients with strong colors: the bright and cheerful artistic atmosphere helps to stimulate their positive emotional experience. It then activates the positive emotional circuit in the brain and promotes the natural secretion of dopamine. This neurotransmitter can bring pleasure and satisfaction, thus strongly motivating patients to face life positively and strengthen their confidence in defeating the disease.
During the event, Professor Xie Wei, Chairman of the Jiangsu Provincial Society of Neuroscience, Professor Shen Sunan, Secretary of the Party Committee of Nanjing University School of Medicine, and Senior Colonel Li Jianfeng, Vice President of the Eastern Theater General Hospital, delivered speeches. At the event, three doctors from the Eastern Theater Command General Hospital gave professional lectures and presented a knowledge guide to the patients and their families present. The expert team actively answered questions from patients and family members present, and provided practical life guidance and education manuals. The activity effectively improved the efficiency of communication with Parkinson’s disease patients and deepened the understanding and trust between both parties. It is a practical action to improve the patients’ quality of life and promote the recovery process.
