Government schools in Delhi NCR join WWF-India’s Ek Prithvi programme for students and teachers

New Delhi: 4500 middle school students from 15 government schools in Delhi NCR will be mentored by WWF-India, under its Ek Prithvi programme, to become environment leaders. The programme, launched in Delhi today, is already under way in 6 other locations across the country, guiding 3000 students and helping them understand the various conservation issues that plague our world today. A unique programme that aims at embedding environment education at the very core of the mainstream education system, Ek Prithvi aspires to promote a pro-active approach in the field of environment conservation and catch the attention of school students while they’re still young.

Speaking about the importance of environment related modules in conventional school syllabus, Ms. Radhika Suri, Director, Environment Education, WWF-India said, ‘It is important to make environment the very basis of how children understand and look at this world. The teachers play an important role in facilitating this change through this programme.’

Dr. Sabata, Sr. Scientific Officer, Govt. of NCT of Delhi, in his address motivated the schools and teachers to adopt Ek Prithvi- Delhi. Mr. Ravi Singh, SG&CEO, WWF-India, emphasized the importance of engaging with young learners to build a sustainable future by connecting them to their environment.

The launch event was also attended by All India Radio, and NGOs like CRY, Teach for India, and Teach for Green. and the event also saw the release of the Ek Prithvi- Delhi book range – a Teacher Resource Book, Delhi Diary, and Trainer’s Manual – that will serve to be the primary tool of instruction for the 4500 students and teachers.

Ek Prithvi- Delhi is supported by the Eco Club programme of the Department of Environment, Government of NCT of Delhi and will begin by sessions such as eco trails, teacher workshops, and radio shows, culminating in an Eco Fest in early 2018.
