RUDN opens Russia’s first digital preparatory faculty for foreign students
Training will be provided online. Foreign applicants will be able to start learning the Russian language “from scratch”, to master the scientific style of speech, to improve their knowledge in 3 of the 8 subjects that are necessary for their future profession: mathematics, physics, chemistry, history, social studies, biology, literature, computer science.
“Leading Russian universities are interested in talented foreign students. The pandemic has already affected international academic mobility. That is why the RUDN University has created a “digital preparatory faculty” where talented foreigners can start their study before they arrive to Russia, even if the borders are closed,” Oleg Yastrebov, the RUDN Rector.
A student of the RUDN digital preparatory faculty will design the training course individually: pass the majors and choose the minors that are necessary for the career. 17 modules have already been created: 8 in the Russian Language, 8 in basic subjects, and 1 in cultural studies. The entire course consists of at least 9 modules.
An international entrant will pass the material in a comfortable rhythm. The main thing is to complete all the tasks before the tests. Each applicant will have a tutor, who will help to monitor the schedule, advise, solve organizational and technical issues. Lectures will be held in real time – teachers will communicate with a virtual class of 15 people max. In addition, students will have individual online consultations and video calls with Russian-speaking students.
The standard course is designed for 10 months. Foreign applicants will start learning the Russian language remotely. They will be able to enter the main course in the next academic year.
The RUDN University is currently testing the platform. The launch will be on September 15. This year, it is planned to focus on working with applicants from countries where RUDN partners have already supported the initiative: China, Ecuador, Georgia, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Namibia, Syria, Turkey, Uzbekistan, and Zambia. However, the courses will be open to all foreigners – it does not have the usual borders and frameworks.
