Three-day Faculty Development Programme cum Training Workshop on “School Safety & Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR)”
New Delhi: In the series of programmes to develop capacity and generate awareness among Education officers, Disaster Managers, Principals, Teachers and Social Workers etc., the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM), Govt of India and Zone4solution is organizing a three-day National Level Faculty Development Programme cum Training Workshop on School Safety and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) from 5th – 7th August, 2020[1000-1300 Hrs.].
The programme was inaugurated by Major General Manoj Kumar Bindal, Executive Director, NIDM, Shri Amrendra Sengar, IG National Disaster Response Forece (NDRF) and Dr. Neha Berlia, CO-founder of Apeejay Stya & Shvran group of Institutions. Prof. Anil Gupta, NIDM set the context of this trendsetting program. ED NIDM in his inaugural address, talked about the safety issues of children and the crime happening around in the society. He appreciated the efforts for choosing such a timely subject in the times of Covid-19 for organizing a comprehensive programme. IG NDRF said that all schools should develop their school disaster Management plan, in time frame manner, as per guideline set by the National Disaster Management Authority. It should be carried out by a qualified disaster manager and translated it on the ground. Ms. Neha Berlia spoke about the importance of child safety, issues related to their mental and physical health and applauded the efforts of NIDM and Zone4solutions in organizing this event.
During the Technical Session, Shri Vikram Gurjar, DC/Training, NIDM trained participants to keep school and children safe in Covid-19 Phase. Shri Shurendra Thakur, Consultant, NIDM explained participants about disaster management framework in India. Shri Nakul Tarun, Disaster Manager, trained participants with regard to how a school Disaster Management plan shall be developed.
A total of 1500 registrations was done for this programme and today about 450 participants across nation attended the programme. The programme was moderated by Shri Ashish Panda, Consultant & Faculty Member, NIDM. He emphasized that knowledge is asset and it has the capacity in saving lives if disseminated properly and timely. Schools can play a major role in making future disaster resilient society. The programme will go on for next two days, wherein, the participants will be trained for aspects like Pshyco social care of Children, Earthquake-School Safety Plan for Risk Mitigation, Fire and School Safety, First aid and CPR technique by professionals etc. The idea is to protect school children from home to home.
