Training Session of UNESCO Qualifications Passport (UQP) Ambassadors in Zambia

The UNESCO Qualifications Passport: A sustainable pathway to building refugee and vulnerable migrant access to employment and higher education

With the support of the project stakeholders, colleagues from UNHCR, the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA), the Norwegian Agency for Quality Assurance of Education (NOKUT) and the UNESCO Lusaka office, organized a training session for furthering the second phase of the UQP pilot in Zambia on the 17 of September. Despite the challenges of pandemic times, all stakeholders came together and realized an inspiring session for the UQP ambassador volunteers to ensure the second phase of the Zambian pilot UQP programme.

Following the training session, the first UQP volunteer ambassadors are now fully ready to assist UNESCO and the refugee officers in the refugee settlement to roll out the UQP project to many more potential beneficiaries of the UQP in the Meheba settlement.

The UQP holder Ambassadors will work directly in collaboration with UNESCO and UNHCR to expand understanding of the UQP to more potential qualified applicants for the UQP.

The recognition of refugee and vulnerable migrant qualifications is critical to UNESCO’s mandate of leaving no one behind and inclusion in education.

The UQP is not only about the recognition of degrees and/or qualifications, but also about valuing human dignity. UNESCO is working with the international community and dialoguing with relevant actors to build an inclusive environment for the most vulnerable. Recognizing human dignity and respect remains intrinsic to the UQP project.
