Dr. Sarmistha Kabi awarded for PhD at the Central University of Hyderabad
Bhubaneswar: Sarmistha was pursuing Ph.D in Gender Studies, Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Hyderabad. Prof. Rekha Pande, Department of History, University of Hyderabad was her supervisor.
Dr G. Satheesh Reddy, Scientific Adviser to Raksha Mantri and DG, Missiles and Strategic Systems, was the chief guest and delivered the convocation address. Dr C. Rangarajan, Chancellor of UoH, presided over the 19th convocation held on 1st October 2017.
The title of the Thesis was “Sex Trafficking of Women in Odisha”. The study was based on the women survivors of sex trafficking in Odisha. The research had been conducted by interviewing the survivors of trafficking with the collaboration of NGOs working in concerned area. The study analyses the ordeal, experiences and voices of the trafficking survivors in various situations. It also examines push and pulls factors of trafficking in Odisha, reasons the causes and impacts of the phenomenon in women. Not only the perspective of the trafficking survivors but the ideology and perspective of Police, Media and NGOs also has been incorporated in the study.
