Webinar on ‘Biology and Medicine: Recent Advances’
Aligarh: “The Androgen Deprivation Therapy (ADP) eliminates cancer cells by inducing androgen deprivation-induced senescence. This treatment needs to be combined with radiation therapy,” said S.S. Bhatnagar Awardee (2020), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) alumna and IIT Kanpur faculty member, Dr Bushra Ateeq.
Dr Bushra was speaking in the one day webinar on ‘Biology and Medicine: Recent Advances’ organised by the Department of Zoology Department.
Delivering a talk on ‘Androgen Deprivation therapy, the double edged sword in prostate cancer treatment’, she discussed the role of spink-one protein and prostate cancer in various types of pathogenicity.
Speaking on ‘Revisting Taxonomy and Sustenance of Biodiversity’, Prof Qudsia Tahseen delineated current tools and techniques used in modern taxonomy to help explore the flora and fauna, the threat from climatic change and habitat loss due to land degradation specially on the below ground biodiversity.
Prof Naheed Ali, AMU alumna, a World Academy of Sciences Fellow and fellow of the three major Indian science academies, highlighted the role of immunology for innovative diagnosis, prevention and cure. She further spoke on therapeutic measures.
Prof Mohammad Afzal, Chairman, Department of Zoology delivered the welcome address, Prof Wasim Ahmad gave the introductory speech. Prof Mukhtar A Khan extended the vote of thanks.
