Central University of Punjab organised a Webinar on “Career Opportunities and Related Skill Set for High-Performance Computing”

Bathinda: The Department of Computational Sciences (DCS), Central University of Punjab, Bathinda (CUPB) organized a Webinar on “Career Opportunities and Related Skill Set for High Performance Computing” under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari. The keynote speaker of this programme was Mr. Hirdey Vikram, Director – Sales (India & EMEA), Tyrone Systems, Netweb, India. Faculty, scholars, and students from different institutions participated in this webinar.

 

Keynote Speaker Mr. Hirdey Vikram discussed the details about High-Performance Computing (HPC), starting from basic to most advanced strategies of HPC. In his lecture, he discussed about the application of graphics processing unit (GPU), and shared how one can optimize the code based on the GPU architecture. The GPU architecture is the most essential for present days computing. During the webinar, the different part of the job opening, starting from architecture building, library optimization and software development for HPC industry was discussed, which is relevant for Nation Education Policy–2020 implementation. Keynote speaker also highlighted the importance of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Big Data knowledge for Bio-IT. He shared the future job prospects in computational biology, material science, renewable energy and related fields. He advised research scholars to focus on Python, and GPU based code writing and its optimization.

 

The programme commenced with the Welcome Address of Prof. V.K. Garg, Dean Student Welfare, where he discussed about the success of the DCS students. He stated that the course curriculum is designed to provide international exposure to students. He added, students from DCS joined as research scholars in many reputed International and National Universities / Institutions like Michigan State University, USA, University of Louisville, USA, University of Copenhagen, Denmark, IIT-Jodhpur, IIT-Gandhinagar, IIT-Mandi, Pondicherry University, ICT-Mumbai, NII-Delhi, IICB-Kolkata, Delhi University South Campus and others, for further research in this field. Towards the end Dr Sudip Chakraborty, HoD, Department of Computational Sciences introduced the keynote speaker and discussed the importance of HPC for job opportunities in IT and Bio-IT based industry as well as the R&D units. Towards the end, he thanked the participants & organising team for the success of this programme.
