ICAR-CIFA Chosen As Champion Institute To Hold Vaibhav Summit On Modern Fisheries And Aquaculture
New Delhi: An ambitious Vaishwik Bharatiya Vaigyanik (VAIBHAV)/global scientists summit-2020 conceptualized by PMO to infuse technology and scientific research to augment growth in different sectors was inaugurated by Shri Narendra Modi, Honourable Prime Minister on 2nd October 2020 on Gandhi Jayanti. Under this mega event, ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture, Bhubaneswar was chosen as a CHAMPION INSTITUTE among all the Fisheries Research Institutes to hold this global summit involving scientists of Indian diaspora. Under this programme a one day virtual summit of global scientists was organized by ICAR-CIFA under Vaibhav-2020 Summit on 16 October 2020. Vaishwik Bharatiya Vaigyanik (VAIBHAV) Summit is a collaborative initiative by all S&T and Academic Organizations of India to enable deliberations on thought process, practices and R&D culture with a problem solving approach for well-defined objectives.The main objective is to bring out a comprehensive roadmap to leverage the expertise and knowledge of global Indian researchers for solving challenges in cutting age research. The theme of the horizontal session of Vaibhav was Modern Fisheries, aquaculture and seed production. A total number of 18 speakers deliberated on cutting edge science and research needs for India in Aquaculture and fisheries field. Eminent scientists from eight (8) different countries (France, Norway, Australia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Hongkong, Thailand) took part in the event. Vaibhav summit on aquaculture emphasized the need for infusing modern aquaculture such as biofloc technology (BFT), re-circulatory aquaculture (RAS), nutrition research, artificial intelligence in aquaculture, machine learning, fish catch using modern gear, super-intensive aquaculture.
The Vaibhav Summit at ICAR-CIFA was inaugurated by Dr. Saroj Kumar Swain, Director and ICAR-CIFA in the virtual August presence of Scientific luminaries from different countries. At the outset Dr. P. Routray, Nodal Officer, welcomed the panellists and participants and flagged issues that needed attention and global handshake in scientific research in aquaculture. The session was Chaired by Dr. J.K. Jena, Deputy Director General, ICAR, New Delhi and Co-Chaired by Prof. Kiron Viswanath, Professor of Aquaculture, NORD University, Norway. The meeting ended with vote of thanks offered by Dr. N.K. Barik, Senior Scientist, ICAR-CIFA, Bhubaneswar. Dr I. Sivaraman, Scientist & IT Coordinator organized the programme.
The deliberations will result in further collaboration in cutting edge research in Aquaculture between India and Other Countries through Indian diaspora.
