Government Degree College , Baramulla celebrates Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s 551th birth anniversary
Baramulla: Government Degree College (GDC), Baramulla today conducted a daylong seminar on ‘Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Teachings and Universal Brotherhood’ to commemorate his 551th birth anniversary.
The event started with a concise account of the life, works, and contributions of Guru Nanak Dev Ji presented by Dr. Syed Masarat Geelani, Head Department of Urdu.
On the occasion, Principal, GDC, Baramulla Prof. Mohammad Maqbool Rather formally welcomed and felicitated the guests including the entire staff of the host college for continuing the age-old practice of celebrating the lives and works of saints, scholars, and intellectuals.
He paid rich obeisance to the first Sikh guru and the founder of Sikhism, Guru Nanak Dev Ji on his 551th birth anniversary.
Prof. Rather highlighted some of the important characteristics of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s personality such as his message to believe and worship one God, crusade against casteism, and universal brotherhood.
The other notable speakers who enlightened the occasion with their consequential deliverance included Head, Sikh Missionary Baramulla, S. Jaipal Singh and Secretary, Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, Baramulla, S. Tejpal Singh besides S. Bhai Satbir Kour, and Ravinder Kour, Writer and Teacher.
These speakers discussed the different dimensions of Guru Nank Dev Ji’s life in the light of social reforms brought about by him centuries before and their relevance, significance, and implementation in the contemporary times.
The student participants who spoke on the occasion included Ramandeep Kour and Dilpreet Kour, whereas, Kawaldeep Kour presented the poetic composition.
The program reasoned out with a formal vote of thanks proposed by Head, Department of Zoology, Prof. Syed Rehmat Shah.
The event witnessed a moderate participation from students and staff members of the college besides dignitaries and prominent members of Sikh community.
