Corona crisis does not deter students- University of Tübingen

New Delhi: More freshmen at the University of Tübingen – international exchanges are falling slightly during the pandemic
A total of 27,436 students are enrolled at the University of Tübingen in the current winter semester, including 16,133 women and 11,303 men. The number of students increased by 240 compared to the previous year (WS 2019/20: 27,196 students). With 5,332 freshmen, the number of new and first-time enrollments is around 100 higher than in the previous year. (WS 2019/20: 5,219)

Overall, the difficult framework conditions during the corona pandemic do not seem to deter prospective students from Germany. The situation is only noticeable in the group of international students: With 3,622 enrolled students, including 2,199 women and 1,423 men, 157 fewer students are enrolled than in the previous year (WS 2019/20: 3,779).

With around 170 exchange students, only about a third of the usual number are currently in Tübingen (WS 2019/20: 500), says Thomas Bonenberger, Head of the Student Division. The exchange with the USA, South America and Africa was completely suspended this semester. For students from these regions, the University’s International Office has launched the free online program “TÜ-VIPP”, which offers language courses, a buddy program and courses on intercultural exchange and sustainability topics. “The program also serves to prepare for an exchange in summer and is currently being used by 86 students worldwide.”
