A 2-day National Conclave on “WOMEN at 75 years of Independence: Work, Life, and Freedom” started in NIT Rourkela

The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences (HS), NIT Rourkela in collaboration with the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi, and UNICEF India, today inaugurated a 2-day (17-18th March, 2023) National Conference on Women@75: Work, Life, and Freedom. Ms. Saswata Patnaik (Additional Government Advocate, Odisha High Court, Cuttack) and Prof. Sarita Anand (Head, Dept. of Development Communication and Extension, Lady Irwin College, Delhi University) graced the inaugural ceremony as the Guests of Honour. This National Conference on the 75th year of India’s Independence is celebrating the achievements of women and strive for more considerable momentum towards their extraordinary deeds in developing India. It will also focus on the barriers that otherwise go unnoticed when discussing the position of women on a larger scale. The conclave had 60 participants (39 Female, 21 Male) associated with IITs, NITs, and reputed universities from various parts of the country (Maharashtra, MP, UP, Bangalore, Pune, Hyderabad, Jharkhand, Bihar, Kolkata, Kochi, Sikkim, Odisha, Delhi etc.). During this 2-day conclave, many eminent experts will deliver their keynote talks on topics like women empowerment, existing issues of gender disparity, legal aspects in women development etc. Few topics to be presented during the conclave are, ‘New Women of Colonial Odisha’, ‘Sanitary Napkin Advertisement Over Time’, ‘In Search of Toilets; Women and Sanitation’, ‘Gender Division of Labour’, ‘Representation of Women in Indian Journalism’, ‘Women in Millet Farming’, ‘Women Representation TV to OTT’, Portrayal of Women in Bollywood Songs’ etc.
