Adamas University organized the first ever online National Moot Court Competition in Eastern India
Kolkata: The School of Law and Justice, Adamas University, Barasat, has recently organized its first online Moot Court Competition in association with Sinha and Company. It is the first of its kind online National Moot Court Competition in Eastern India. Around twenty-four teams comprising of students from various reputed law colleges and universities from all over India like Amity Law School Kolkata, Xavier Law School, Xavier University, Bhubaneshwar, Symbiosis Law School, Nagpur, Government Law College, Mumbai University etc., participated in this competition.
The two day competition saw presence of notable dignitaries like Hon’ble Justice Mr. Anil R. Dave, former Judge, Supreme Court of India, Hon’ble Mr. Justice. R.R. Tripathi, the High Court of Gujrat and Hon’ble Mr. Judge Dr. Shiva Sharma, Former District and Sessions Judge in the State of Haryana and U.P as its guest of honour. The dignitaries appreciated Adamas University for organizing such an interesting competition and also congratulated the participants’ commitment and preparation for the competition.
The School of Law and Justice, Adamas University provided six virtual platforms or E rooms for the students to have a wonderful experience of arguing amidst an eminent panels of retired Judges, jurists and other leading legal practitioners and providing opportunity to develop deeper understanding of the law. The Moot propositions were based on Law of Contract, Company Law and Constitutional Law.
The Best Mooter prize was awarded to Mr. Aryan Srivastava from School of Law, Manipal University, Jaipur. The first position was awarded to University of Mumbai Law Academy. The runner up for this competition was School of Law Manipal University Jaipur. This event is historic in itself and has been marked as the most successful venture showing path with light to the students.
Prof. (Dr.) Samit Ray, Hon’ble Chancellor of Adamas University, stated that it was heartwarming to find that the present youth has channelized their energies to face such a fruitful challenge. The pandemic Corona has created a situation where virtual courts are seen as remedy. This qualities which will be developed during the exercise of the two days will certainly take them to the destination named as success.
Prof. (Dr.) Deependra Kumar Jha, Vice-Chancellor of the University, through his inspirational speech motivated the teams and has appreciated the team SOLJ for organizing the national moot court competition. Putting emphasis on the core subjects of the moot problems he has focused as to how such subjects can be used by the students for their progress.
Prof. (Dr.) Jyotsna Yagnik, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean of School of Law and Justice mentioned that it is red letter day in the history of School Of Law And Justice it being the maiden Moot Court Competition. She has also complimented the participants for their valued participation which will surely add strength to their career over and above sharpening their argumentative skill and the domain knowledge of law.
Prof Ujjwal Chowdhary, Pro V.C Adamas University and Dean Media School has given his closing remarks appreciating the efforts, need of such events, the contribution of such moot courts in the legal profession and importance of adjudging the competition by senior persons like senior lawyers and experienced judges.
