Aligarh Muslim University: Annual flower show concludes with prize distribution

Aligarh: The Vice Chancellor’s Lodge and the Gulistan-e-Syed teams bagged four trophies each in the Annual Flower Show-2023 organized by the Department of Land and Gardens, Aligarh Muslim University, with their enthralling display of blooms, blossoms, various cut flowers and roses that added luster to the event.

The VC Lodge team won the ‘HP Bhaiyaji Running Cup for the best garden of the university within 1000 sqm. to 15000 sqm., Mr. M. Habib Running Cup for the best exhibit in class B, Mr. Zafar Alam Running Cup for the best exhibit in class D and Syed Viqar Ahmad Running Cup for the best exhibit in class F1-F6; while Gulistan-e-Syed team won the Begum Sarwatun Nisa Cup for the above 2000 sqm large size best lawn, University Running Cup for the best garden of the university within 1500 to 2000 sqm, Anand Chaturvedi Memorial Running Cup for the best exhibit in class C and Mr. Nafisul Hasan Running Cup for the best Rose in class C-4.

Meanwhile, the PVC Lodge got the University Running Cup for the best university garden within 250 to 500 sqm, Botanical Garden got Smt. Rekha Krishna Memorial Running Cup for the best garden of the university within 250 sqm, Ahmad Moosa Saad Saeed Siddiqui got the Dr. M.K. Gupta and Smt. Sudha Gupta Running Trophy for the best private garden, Commandant 104 RAF won the University Running Cup for the best Institutional Garden, Al-Barkaat Public School received the University Running Cup for the best exhibit of the show and Incharge Botanical Garden got the Prof. Suhail Ahmad Memorial Running Cup for the different Cacti (grown in pots).

“The incredible display of so many flowers of every description grown to perfection in the Annual Chrysanthemum, Coleus and Rose Show mesmerized the visitors”, remarked Prof Naima Gulrez (Principal, Women’s College) who attended the prize distribution ceremony as the Chief Guest.

The Guest of Honour, Prof Abdul Aleem said, “This show always leaves you with great memories of the flowers you find and the people you meet”.

“A Total of 228 prizes including 68 first, 71 second and 89 consolation prizes were given in the concluding ceremony of the two-day flower show”, said Prof Zaki Anwar Siddiqui (Member-in-Charge, Department of Land and Gardens).

Prof Waseem Ahmad, Dr S M Javed, Prof Athar Ansari, Prof Ali Nawaz Zaidi, Prof Mohammad Rihan, Prof Anwar Shehzad, Dr Shamsuzzaman Khan, Mr Shahabuddin, Mr Omar Saleem Peerzada, Mr Irfan Ahmad and Mr Govind Katyar gave away prizes to the winners.

Dr Tariq Aftab (Associate Member-in-Charge, Department of Land and Gardens) extended the vote of thanks.
