Aligarh Muslim University organized International symposium on Immunomodulation
Aligarh: The Faculty of Unani Medicine, Aligarh Muslim University organized the first international symposium in e-mode on “Immunomodulation: An Integrated Approach in Unani Medicine”.
Delivering a talk on “Immunology Goes Viral”, Prof Nadeem Fazal (Senior Immunologist, Bio-Medical Sciences, Chicago State University, USA) said that “no product has yet been approved by the FDA regarding COVID-19 treatment”. He discussed how immunity impacted human health and how it could be enhanced.
In his presidential remarks, Professor Zaheeruddin (Pro-Vice-Chancellor) said that the symposium seeks to open the way for further researches in the field of immunology, adding that “prevention is better than cure”.
He also released two books (Moalijate Amraze Tanaffus and Matabwa Nuskha Nawisi) authored by Professor Abdul Mannan, Dean, Faculty of Unani Medicine.
Professor Saud Ali Khan (Principal, Ajmal Khan Tibbiya College) said that Unani System of medicine has a lot of Mufrad and Murakkab drugs that can prove to be helpful in addressing the COVID-19 situation.
Prof Abdul Mannan (Dean, Faculty of Unani Medicine and Chairman, Organizing Committee) discussed the fundamentals of Unani Medicines and elaborated the theme of the symposium.
Earlier, while welcoming the guests, Professor Mohd Anwar (Organizing Secretary) presented an introductory note on the concept of immunity booster present in Unani medicine, which helps in improving the immune system to sustain pandemics like Covid-19. He said Unani medicine has a long list of immunomodulatory drugs, however, proper validation is required so that these medicines can be benefited to community health. He said that more than 1300 participants have registered for participation in the e-symposium.
Prof Kunwar M Yusuf Ameen delivered a talk on the relation of Umoore Tabiyat and Human Immunological complex, while Prof Ghulamuddin Sofi (NIUM, Bangaluru) delineated his understanding of Immunomodulation and immunomodulatory drug used in Unani Medicine and Dr Iftikhar Saifi (Unani Physician, Dubai, UAE) delivered a talk on “Nutrition as medicine”.
