Petrozavodsk State University takes part in the All-Russian Library Congress: XXV Annual Conference of the Russian Library Association “Library 2030: Building the Future Today”, which is taking place in Petrozavodsk in 2021.
Professionals of librarianship from all regions of Russia, international library associations and foreign libraries take part in the XXV All-Russian Library Congress. Over the course of four days, from May 16 to May 20, they will exchange experience and determine the directions for the development of the country’s library sector in the future.

Back in 2020, Petrozavodsk was awarded the title of “Library Capital of Russia”. As Mikhail Afanasyev, President of the Russian Library Association, noted, Petrozavodsk received the title of the library capital not by chance, but as a place where cultural and library traditions have a long history dating back to the Olonets province. Karelia can be proud of its achievements in this area even now. He said that for the first time in the 25-year history of the event, so many participants will join it thanks to online events: the Library Congress will bring together more than a thousand full-time participants and several thousand of those who will work remotely.

The theme for all events at the 2021 Congress is Library 2030: Building the Future Today. The extensive program of the congress includes meetings of the Board of the Russian Library Association, seminars, sections and round tables on various issues of librarianship, support for books and reading, development of book distribution and book trade. One of the important issues for discussion will be the use of forms of teleworking, which have become leading during the pandemic. Also, traditional events will be held: “School of a set-up”, “School of a library blogger”, “School of a restorer”, training seminars. Every evening, online broadcasts will be held for all congress participants who have registered on the online platform.

As a reminder, in 2019, within the framework of preparation for the All-Russian Library Congress in Petrozavodsk , the President of the Russian Library Association Mikhail Dmitrievich Afanasyev visited the Scientific Library of PetrSU .

The positive image of Petrozavodsk State University accompanies me throughout my professional life. When we were choosing the city that will become the library capital in 2020, one of the important factors was that there are two strongest libraries in Petrozavodsk – the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Scientific Library of PetrSU. I was pleasantly struck by the creative atmosphere that prevails in PetrSU, the openness to everything new, the willingness to work. We came here with an offer of additional work, met with a positive reaction from all the participants involved in the preparation process. This makes me happy. Undoubtedly, it is very pleasant to cooperate with PetrSU, there is a lot to learn here, to enrich yourself,
Mikhail Dmitrievich noted then.
