Gujarat CM Vijaybhai Rupani inaugurated Flower Show 2020 at Sabarmati Riverfront, Ahmedabad
Ahmedabad: Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani opened the 8 th Flower Show- 2020 organised by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) at the Sabarmati Riverfront here today. It will remain open till January 19, 2020.
Speaking on the occasion, he welcomed the annual flower show being arranged by AMC every winter to the enjoyment of connoisseurs of flowers, which has become a new identity of the city. This is in addition to Book Show and Kankaria Carnival, along with its civic duties of providing drinking water and sewage disposal.
Mr. Rupani recalled the flower show was started by the dreamer Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2013 when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat. It is a matter of pride that the Heritage City is emerging as the Smart City as well.
He also inaugurated the event ground. It is spread over 88,500 square metres, with 750 varieties of flowers numbering 10-lakh saplings, drawn from different parts of the country and abroad is being arranged on different themes. This year’s theme are Mahatma Gandhi’s 150 th birth anniversary depicting his life and nature, save water, re-use, 200-foot long green wall, replica of Lord Hanuman carrying life-saving Sanjivani in the Ayurveda section, life cycle of aedes species of mosquito as part of anti-malaria awareness campaign.
Many artistic sculptures of birds and animals, butterflies, sporting events, gateways, etc. have been carved out of plants. This year’s specialty includes mobile application, parking space with ‘show my parking’ app, free electric bus.
The entry fee is Rs.20 per head on week days and Rs.50 on weekends. It is free for senior citizens and for under-12 children on weekdays and under-3 on weekends. Tickets are available from City Civic Centres.
Those present during the inauguration included Minister of State for Home Pradeepsinh Jadeja, Ahmedabad Mayor Bijalben Patel, Municipal Commissioner Vijay Nehra, office- bearers, officials and a large number people.
