Amrita Hospital, Faridabad, Celebrates First Anniversary of its Founding

 The 2,600-bed Amrita Hospital is celebrating the first anniversary of its founding since its inauguration by Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year in August. The hospital, India’s largest private multispecialty healthcare facility spread across 130 acres, has achieved significant milestones in the last 12 months. It has crossed the mark of over 1.60 lakh outpatients, 11,600 inpatients and over 3,000 surgeries since its inception.

In a span of just one year, Amrita Hospital, Faridabad, has established a School of Medicine and a School of Nursing and Para Medical Courses. It is also aggressively involved in medical research, with most of the faculty participating in drug trials, research studies, etc. In addition, it has initiated Outreach OPDs across all areas of Delhi NCR, with primary focus on the Northern regions of India.

Amrita Hospital, Faridabad, has taken a proactive approach to cater to the needs of all segments of society that lack access to essential life necessities. This is being achieved through organizing health camps, provision of education to children, and the implementation of training courses that ultimately lead to employment.

Several departments of the hospital notched significant achievements to their credit over the last 12 months, including some of the most challenging surgeries in the country. These include successful surgery on a 23-year-old woman from Middle East who suffered from a health condition that led to the development of a breast weighing 11 kgs.

In a marathon surgery that lasted 18 hours, a four-year-old boy born with Median Facial Cleft Syndrome was successfully operated upon. In yet another feat, Amrita’s Head & Neck surgeons removed a neck tumor, the size of a musk melon, from the neck of a Nigerian woman. Faridabad’s first interstitial brachytherapy on a 65-year-old lady was also performed for recurrent cervical cancer.

Amrita Hospital has already become a pioneer in robotic surgeries, conducting more than 20 surgeries using the Da-Vinci Xi robotic arm. Its uro-oncologists initiated Robotic Radical Prostatectomy for prostate cancer, a first in Faridabad. Additionally, robotic living donor surgery for a liver graft was carried out recently for transplant into a patient.

Amrita Hospital has performed five live kidney transplants and one deceased donor transplant after getting license for transplant programs in December 2022. Additionally, its surgeons have managed to save 81% of children with acute liver failure without a liver transplant.

Amrita Hospital is among the few in the country to have a facility to conduct pediatric endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) procedures to treat problems in a child’s liver, gallbladder, and pancreas. It also established an esophageal and anorectal manometry center and launched India’s largest robotic live donor program. It has also established dedicated clinics for liver and pancreas.

About 116 pediatric and congenital heart surgeries have been performed at the hospital so far. Nine such surgeries were performed on children less than one month of age, with the youngest being just four days old. The hospital has also successfully managed more than 300 critically sick children in the last 12 months.

In another milestone, Amrita Hospital initiated bone conduction implants for children with outer ear defects and began trials of See Sound Live (SSL), a novel assistive technology empowering the deaf to speak. The hospital has also become a designated eye collection center. During the year, it also received NABL accreditation for its labs for quality assurance.

Notably, Amrita Hospital has adopted a policy of providing painless labor for all women. Its dedicated neonatal transport services have helped retrieve seven high-risk newborns. It also became the first center in Faridabad to perform an intrauterine transfusion. During the last one year, the hospital established a Sleep Lab for patients with sleep complaints. It also initiated a support group for patients with Parkinson’s Disease.

More than 200 neurosurgical procedures have been performed at the hospital in the last 12 months, including Deep Brain Stimulation, specialized epilepsy surgery, and minimally invasive spine surgeries. Over 35 paediatric neurosurgical procedures have also been conducted, along with 100 joint replacement surgeries. Three major spinal deformity correction surgeries were performed by spinal surgeons. The much-applauded cardiac unit of the hospital is one of the very few such centers in India that can perform cardiac, vascular, and thoracic surgeries under the same roof.

The Nephrology Department of the hospital established kidney biopsy service in both children and adults and initiated maintenance hemodialysis program for children. It successfully performed rare dialysis on an underweight, six-day-old baby girl suffering from severe kidney injury.

In a noble initiative, the HMD Foundation, the CSR wing of Hindustan Syringes & Medical Devices, donated a mobile testing laboratory unit to Amrita Hospital to help extend quality medical care to people in Faridabad and the surrounding region, especially rural areas. Considering the importance of telemedicine in the country, the Haryana State Chapter of the Telemedicine Society of India was inaugurated at the hospital in March this year.

Amrita Hospital, Faridabad also conducted medical and screening camps, convened self-help groups, adopted villages, provided GDA training of under privileged girls from nearby villages.
