AMU begins week-long Republic Day celebrations

Aligarh : Aligarh Muslim University will celebrate the 74th Republic Day with vigour and gaiety.

The week-long celebrations began with the Republic Day Half Marathon organised by the University Games Committee on January 22. The race was conducted separately for boys and girls and students of Class XII and above participated in the event. Winners will be given prizes by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Tariq Mansoor.

A poetic session will be organised by the department of Urdu on the eve of the Republic Day. Professor Tariq Mansoor will preside over it and a number of prominent poets will recite their compositions.

Before the flag hoisting on January 26, Prabhat Pheri by secondary school boys will be conducted in the University campus, while a similar Prabhat Pheri by girl students will take place within the Abdullah Hall premises.

The flag hoisting ceremony and a customary parade by NCC cadets will be held at the Strachey Hall at 9:30 am. The National Flag will also be unfurled at the Administrative Block Building, Vice Chancellor’s Lodge, Maulana Azad Library, Faculty of Arts, AMU schools and colleges, all offices of the Deans and DSW, all Provost Offices and the Proctor’s Office. The Administrative Block Building, M A Library, Victoria Gate, University Polytechnic Auditorium, Baab-e-Syed and Arts Faculty building will also be illuminated on this occasion.

The Vice Chancellor will visit the University Health Service to meet the indoor patients and to distribute fruits and saplings will be planted in the campus as a part of an on-going plantation drive.

Meanwhile, literary competitions such as Inter-school debates and Essay in English, Hindi and Urdu languages, painting and Bait Bazi competitions will take place in various AMU schools and departments. Games and sports activities like Inter-district Basket Ball, Volley Ball and Football tournaments will also be organised. The Ahmadi School for Visually Challenged will organise a marathon for its students.
