AMU Engineering students design hybrid vehicle
Aligarh: Energy efficiency can improve the economic competitiveness of countries and businesses, as well as reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve the quality of life. Having realised the growing demand for alternative energy sources, Green Warriors, a team of Zakir Husain College of Engineering and Technology (ZHCET), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) students designed a hybrid vehicle that can be operated by charging the battery through non-conventional methods. The car has an intelligent system for pothole and hump identification on roads, ADAS and other e-Mobility systems.
Green Warriors members, Arquam Hashim Siddiquie (Captain), Mohammad Zain (Vice Captain), Adiitya Kumar Singh (Treasurer), Jyoti Kumari (Manager), Aryan Varshney, Yash Singhal, Aakash Gupta, Prasun Jain, Tahseen Mirza, Sarfaraz Ibrahimi and M Anas Habib presented the vehicle design at the Virtual Efficycle 2020 organised by the Society of Automotive Engineers India, where it has been evaluated for over two months on the engineering concepts and techniques.
The smart vehicle is equipped with a kinetic energy regeneration system, solar charging, infotainment system, music system, display screen, phone charger, cyclo computer, digital speedometer, digital odometer, battery level indicator, clock, speed alert mechanism, reverse parking assistance, sensors to help park and reverse with a buzzer as a warning mechanism, adjustable headlamps and a seat-belt reminder.
“A unique characteristic of the vehicle is that it has a system to identify potholes and humps in order to avoid accidents and also to save fuel consumption with a Pothole Detecting and Coordinate Flagging System and an Alert System. Potholes are detected using Image IoT, GPS, and acceleration sensing,” said the team members.
They added: “Working on the concept of e-mobility, we investigated and experimented on various factors to make the designed vehicle up to the mark by incorporating a newly designed suspension and a power transmission mechanism with minimum losses to enhance the driving experience.”
Green Warriors members extended gratitude towards faculty advisors, Mr Nafees Ahmad and Dr Syed Fahad Anwar, for the continuous guidance and Alumni Associations for the support. They have also thanked Hotel Palm Tree, Almostajed and Mannat Hospital for encouraging them.
