AMU mourns death of former Dental College Principal

 

Aligarh : Prof S H Hashmi, Founding Principal of the Dr Z A Dental College (ZADC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) passed away at a New Delhi hospital on June 1, Wednesday after suffering multiple organ failure.

He retired from the university after serving as the ZADC Principal from 1996 to 2012.

“Prof Hashmi had a remarkable gift for friendship and built an extraordinarily wide acquaintance with colleagues and students who delighted in his company. He faced illness with remarkable courage”, said AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor.

He added: “The university community shares the sorrow of the deceased’s bereaved family and I wish all of us to find comfort in his memories. He will be deeply missed by friends, colleagues and students”.

Reminiscing Prof Hashmi’s tenure at the Dental College, Prof Rajendra Kumar Tewari (Principal, ZADC) said, “Prof Hashmi was known for setting exacting standards that few others could meet and he was unfailingly generous with wise counsel and advice to both students and faculty”.

“Prof Hashmi would regularly make rounds of all departments in the Dental College for conversations about further raising the standards of teaching and patient care. His legacy lives on in his contributions that have proved essential in helping teachers and students unravel some of the complexities of Dental Surgery”, he added.

The deceased is survived by wife, daughter and son.
