AMU teacher delivers a lecture on Iqbal

ALIGARH  : Dr. Aamir Riyaz, Department of Philosophy, Aligarh Muslim University delivered a lecture on “The Universalistic Approach of Mohd Iqbal’s Philosophy: An Analysis´at the Department of Philosophy, University of Lucknow.

Dr Riyaz delved into the misconceptions attached to the life and philosophy of Mohd Iqbal and emphasized the two important aspects of Iqbal’s philosophy – humanism and love, to prove the elements of universalism in his poetry.

He said that Mrs Sarojini Naidu once said that “poems of Iqbal have freed my soul from the narrow confines of nationalism and have enabled me to love the entire humanity.”

He concluded by quoting the great poet, Rabindranath Tagore, “The death of Sir Muhammad Iqbal creates a void in literature that, like a mortal wound, will take a very long time to heal. India, whose place in the world is too narrow, can ill afford to miss a poet whose poetry had such universal value.”
