Annual sports fest held at BSJ Hall

 

ALIGARH : The Begum Sultan Jahan Hall, Aligarh Muslim University organized a two-day annual sports fest as part of its Annual Hall Week celebration, “Zarafshan”, which consisted of a number of sports events, including Intra as well as Inter-Hall competitions.

In his inaugural address, the chief guest, Dean Students’ Welfare, Prof Rafiuddin said that AMU is a unique institution where one can learn the best of traits, from academic to literary, cultural and sports education.

Dr. Jameel Ahmed, Department of Pharmacology, attended the inaugural function as the special guest.

On the day one, several inter-Hall competitions were organized. In Badminton, Rana Firdaus of Begum Sultan Jahan Hall won the match, while in Table Tennis, Syeda Sarika Sobnom of Abdullah Hall was declared as the winner. In Chess, Sadaf Rafique of Begum Azizun Nisa Hall won the match, while in Carrom, Zeba Riyasat Hussain and Huma Azeem of BSJ Hall emerged as the winner. The BSJ Hall team won the match in Kabaddi.

On day two, the hall inmates participated in a large number in various intra-hall sports events including Darting, Lemon Race, Tug of War and Musical Chair. The day however began with the inter-Hall Volleyball match.

Mr. Sardar Hussain, Volleyball Coach, AMU and Ms. Nida Usmani were the special guests on this occasion.

Ms. Amreen Jahan, Secretary, Games, and Ms. Sadaf Rehman, Joint Secretary, Games, played a key role in organizing the fest.

Earlier, Prof. Saira Mehnaz, Provost of the hall, welcomed the guests and urged the students to take part in sports events in a large number as this will not only help in their personality development but also make them competitive.

Ms. Aziza Rizvi, former Director, Physical Education, Women’s College extended a vote of thanks.
