Archaeological Section of Aligarh Muslim University enriched with donated collections

Aligarh: The Centre of Advanced Study, Department of History, Aligarh Muslim University has acquired a collection of books, journals, maps, plans, transparencies (slides) and photographs from the family of late Dr Waqar Hasan Siddiqui, a former Superintendent Archaeologist, In-charge Agra Circle, Archaeological Survey of India and former Director of Raza Library, Rampur.

The entire collection has been kept in the Archaeology Section of the Department of History and a Library has been created at the Archaeology Section and its Reading Room has become functional.

The Archaeology Section was recently inaugurated by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor in the presence of Professor A Jamkhedkar, Chairman, ICHR, New Delhi and Professor Emeritus Irfan Habib.

Over the last few months, the section has acquired around 200 Archaeological fragments and sculptures belonging to the 10th ? 11th century AD that are Jain, Vaishnava and Shaivite.

The Archaeology Section has also published a bulletin and a catalogue of its collections (in two volumes) and organised a weeklong workshop for the students for the first time since its inception in 1968.
