Basal Implantology and International Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Day

Aligarh : The Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Dr. ZA Dental College, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) today organized a workshop on “Basal Implantology” to mark the International Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Day.
Inaugurating the workshop, the chief guest Mr. Mohammad Imran, IPS, Registrar AMU, said the new technology of Basal Implantology gives freedom to old age people to have their favourite food with confidence. He said the participants of the workshop will learn a lot about the newest technology of Dental Surgery, which is emerging as the most successful dental plant procedure by offering fixed teeth within a short time.

Guest of Honour, Prof. S.K. Katharia, Executive Committee Member, Dental Council of India said the Dental Implantology is an alternative for the missing teeth. “It also enhances the oral health of a man”, he added. Prof. Katharia urged the participants to come forward and educate the masses about the tooth problem and other ailments.

Prof Veena Maheshwari, Dean Faculty of Medicine said the Dental implant technology has become the state-of-the-art tooth replacement solution because of its advantages over earlier treatments and, with modern innovations in dentistry, most patients can benefit from them. “When there is no tooth, the jaw bone in the empty space deteriorates due to lack of stimulation and this bone loss continues over the years, hence an implant replaces the root as well as the tooth, and provides the needed stimulation for natural bone growth”, she pointed out.

Prof RK Tiwari, Principal Dr Z.A Dental College said implant is fast growing technique and practiced by most of the Dentist and most demanding treatment option for replacement of missing teeth as a single unit to missing complete dentition.

“Dentistry is not only a filling of a tooth or removing it but it’s much more than this. Now oral maxillofacial surgeons are operating all types of oral and facial cases starting from the facial trauma, Oro-facial Cancer cleft and lip palate surgery with the help of plastic surgeons and even hair transplant. Oral and Maxillofacial Society on principle approved the inclusion of hair transplant in its syllabus and soon Dental Council of India may notify it”, he said.

Prof G.S Hashmi, Organising Chairman and Chairman, Department of Maxillofacial Surgery said Basal Implantology is a modern implantology system which utilizes the basal cortical portion of the jaw bones for retention of the dental implants which are uniquely designed to be accommodated in the basal cortical bone areas. “The Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery is the only surgical branch in the field of dentistry where we provide best treatment to the needy and poor patients”, he said.

Prof Rakesh Bhargava, Principal and CMS, JN Medical College & Hospital assured all possible help for allocating more OT days in the trauma centre to cater to the treatment of patients who are in long waiting.
