BML Munjal University donates face shields to Municipal Corporation of Gurugram

Gurugram: Faculty and students of BML Munjal University (BMU), a Hero Group initiative, headed by Prof. A.K. Prasada Rao and Prof. Kalluri Vinayak, donated over 1,000 face shields, to the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG), in an event held on Saturday, July 11, 2020.

A team from the University comprising the Registrar, Mr. Abhay Sharma; Dean of School of Engineering and Technology, Prof. Maneek Kumar; the Head of Mechanical Engineering, Prof. Kalluri Vinayak; Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Dr. A.K. Prasada Rao and Mr. Vinod Prakash – Administrative Officer met Shri. Amit Khatri, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Gurugram, and handed-over the face-shields for the frontline COVID-19 warriors on behalf of the University. The initiative was well received by Mr. Khatri’s office in supporting the efforts and activities of the district administration in their fight against the pandemic.

Manufactured using 3-D printing and injection molding technique on campus, this face shield provides a convenient and effective way of controlling the spread of this deadly virus. Produced in various labs of BML Munjal University, these face-shields were designed by the team of students of the Engineering School, comprising of Kanav Mittal, Bhavya Tuteja, P Narasimha Chandra, Chittapragada Vishnu and Aman Singh, under the supervision of the faculty coordinators Prof. A.K. Prasada Rao and Prof. Kalluri Vinayak. The facilities at the University are now capable of mass producing these shields.

Speaking about the event, Mr. Akshay Munjal, President, BMU said, “BMU is proud to be of assistance to the local Gurgaon administration and help in whatever way it can. The faculty and staff at BMU have been relentlessly working to produce PPE material that is in line with the guidelines laid down by the government and is now capable of providing more face shields in the future. I thank Shri Amit Khatri to take time out and grace the event.”

Talking about the technical prowess of the University, Prof Manoj K Arora, Vice Chancellor, BMU said, “Our university is well equipped with high end laboratories in the area of automation and additive manufacturing. The effort of our faculty and staff and the support provided by the AG industries, using our 3D printing facility, in producing face shields is highly applauded. This PPE has become a necessity for the people working in hospitals, healthcare centres, industries and warehouses. We are humbled to help our frontline COVID-19 warriors.”
