Breast Cancer Screening cum awareness camp held at GMC Doda
DODA : To contain the rising incidences of Breast Cancer, a Free Breast Cancer Screening Camp was today organised here in the Department of Gynaecology, Government Medical College Doda.
The Camp was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner, Vikas Sharma in presence of Dr Tariq (founder Principal GMC Doda) and Dr Noor Ali incumbent Principal GMC Doda.
The Keynote address was presented by Dr. Ashraf Ali Khan Consultant/ Lab coordinator GMC, Doda. He talked about the rising incidences of Breast Cancer accounting up-to 27% of all cancers in Indian women. “We are losing more women to breast cancer in India than any other country. A significantly large number among these women are under 50 years of age. Owing to the lack of education and awareness of this disease and in absence of a breast cancer-screening program, the majority of breast cancers are diagnosed at a relatively advanced stage” the Doctor said.
In his address, Deputy Commissioner, Vikas Sharma called for a establishing a permanent Breast Cancer screening facility in the GMC as well as for public in the remote areas also.
Welcoming the suggestion of the Deputy Commission forward, Dr Noor Ali Principal shared that the institute will soon have a permanent facility of Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening cum Training Center to provide the service to the public in the remote areas also. “HCWs will be trained to perform screening in GMC Doda and in remote areas as the device is portable and does not require infrastructure” he assured.
Meanwhile, over 100 female patients were screened during the camp. Dr Noor Ali Principal, GMC Doda appreciated the efforts of Dr Madhu, Dr Babar and all the Nurses and Residents for organizing this noble activity in GMC Doda.
