Doda celebrates Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas with patriotic fervor

Series of cultural events held to marks birth anniversary of iconic tribal freedom fighter Birsa Munda

 

DODA : District administration Doda today organised a series of events to celebrate Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas and to mark the birth anniversary of iconic tribal freedom fighter Birsa Munda, who led a rebellion against the British rulers.

The Union Government has decided to celebrate 15th November- the birth anniversary of legendary freedom fighter as the Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas

During the Day, series of cultural programs were held in coordination with the Tribal Affairs Department in different parts of the District featuring singing of patriotic songs and Gujjar folklores, Gojri mushairas, seminars and other activities.

The DDC Doda Vikas Sharma attended a program organised here at Gujjar and Bakerwal Boys hostel.

Speaking on the occasion, the DDC briefed about achievements of the iconic tribal freedom fighter Birsa Munda in unifying the tribal communities against the Britishers during the national freedom movement.

The DDC listed the policies and schemes of the Government launched for the uplift of the tribal communities in J&K, including implementation of Forest Rights Act.

He said that the celebration program will continue till 22nd of November and directed the departments to give wide publicity to the schemes meant for the socio- economic growth of tribal communities during the week long program.

The people from the tribal community extended gratitude to the Union Government for declaring this day in the memory of Birsa Munda, which also came as a token of respect to the entire tribal community of the country.

Similar programs were also organised at sub district and sub division level in which officers, officials besides locals participated actively.

ADC Doda Dr R K Bharti also accompanied the DDC during the program at Gujjar Bakerwal Boys hostel Doda.
