Central University of Punjab organised an International Webinar on “Self-Reliant Gandhi: Rearticulating Village, Cottage & Vintage”

Bathinda: Central University of Punjab, Bathinda (CUPB) organized an International Webinar on “Self-Reliant Gandhi: Rearticulating Village, Cottage and Vintage”. CUPB Department of Sociology conducted this programme as a part of International Webinar Series on ‘150 Years of Celebrating the Mahatma’ under the patronage of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari. The Keynote Speaker of this programme was Prof. Mohan K. Gautam, Leiden, Netherlands. Faculty, scholars, and students from different institutions participated in this webinar.

Keynote Speaker Prof. Mohan K. Gautam discussed the various phases of Mahatma Gandhi’s life & highlighted many interesting facts of his life which shaped his philosophy. He discussed in detail how to methodologically engage within the social science domain with the thought and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi. He stressed on adoption of Gandhian Development Model for strengthening the production and functioning from village level to cottage level. He talked about the relevance of Gandhian thought and philosophy within the social sciences discipline and requested researchers to take up the topics relevant to village level.

Prof. Tiwari complemented Prof. Mohan K. Gautam for delivering a scholarly lecture. He emphasized that Gandhian Ideology of self-belief, cooperation, sharing of resources, non-violence, social-equality, self-dependence & empowering the needy is very much relevant in present times to solve grass root problems and it will play an important role in realising the dream of Atam Nirbhar Bharat.

The programme was jointly coordinated by faculty from Dept. of Sociology. At the start of programme, Dr. Vinod Arya shared the programme’s concept note. After this Dr. Aditya Ranjan Kapoor, welcomed the guests and introduced the Keynote Speaker. Towards the end Dr. Sumedha Dutta proposed formal vote of thanks.
