CINI Celebrates International Women’s Day with Kavach Mothers

Kolkata : Child in Need Institute (CINI) commemorated International Women’s Day 2024 by celebrating the remarkable achievements of women at its head office in Kolkata. The event, themed “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress,” resonated with CINI’s ongoing Kavach initiative.
The program was graced by the presence of Dr. Indrani Bhattacharjee, CEO of CINI; Mr. Marine Mukherjee, Gautam Mondal, Sthita Raut, Sanchari Chakraborty, Urmi Roy and Mr. Amit Dasgupta, Honorable Governing Body Member of CINI, along with the entire CINI family at the head office.
The highlight of the event was the participation of 15 extraordinary women from the Sundarbans. These women, now renowned as “Kavach Mothers,” shared their inspiring journeys of transformation from remote villages to becoming heroes in their communities.
The Kavach Mothers are volunteers in a groundbreaking initiative by ICMR, CINI, and TGI aimed at preventing child drowning. Through their dedication and hard work, they are saving lives and empowering others.
Dr. Indrani Bhattacharjee, CEO of CINI, commended the Kavach Mothers for their unwavering commitment and selflessness. She emphasized that, “CINI promotes women’s empowerment and inclusion in all social spheres. The Kavach Mothers are shining examples of how women can lead positive change in their communities.”
Mr. Amit Dasgupta, Honorable Governing Body Member of CINI, shared the legacy of CINI in empowering women for the last 50 years. He highlighted CINI’s unwavering commitment to creating a more equitable society where women can thrive.
Mr. Sujoy Roy, Sr. Manager at CINI and State head WRA West Bengal, further echoed this sentiment in his address. He said, “These women are the true embodiment of women’s empowerment. Their stories are a testament to the power of investing in women and the positive impact they can have on their communities.”
Roy also added, “Currently, CINI is engaged in a global campaign on Women’s Health and Wellbeing across West Bengal as the secretariat of White Ribbon Alliance West Bengal.”
One of the Kavach mothers, Sonamoni, proudly shared her experience. She said, “In the catchment area of the Kavach Centres, there has been a single incident of child fatal drowning since the initiation of the Kavach program.” This powerful testament to the program’s success speaks volumes about the dedication of the Kavach Mothers.
The event concluded with a powerful message of hope and a renewed commitment to supporting women’s leadership in building a safer and brighter future for all.
