CME on adverse drug monitoring

ALIGARH  : The Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) Monitoring Centre, Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital, Aligarh Muslim University organized a CME on Pharmacovigilance for faculty members and residents of Ziauddin Ahmad Dental College, AMU, under the aegis of PvPI, IPC, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

Addressing the inaugural session, the chief guest, Prof. Veena Maheshwari (Dean, Faculty of Medicine) urged the clinicians to report all types of suspected adverse reactions in case of all pharmaceutical products, notwithstanding whether they are known or unknown, serious or non-serious and frequent or rare.

The guest of honour, Prof. Rakesh Bhargava (Principal and CMS, JNMCH) stressed the need of the Nationwide Pharmacovigilance Programme and role of clinicians in ADR monitoring.

Another guest of honour, Prof. Rajendra Kumar Tewari (Principal, ZADC) motivated and encouraged all healthcare professionals of dental college to report ADRs.

Programme Coordinator, Prof. Farida Ahmad emphasized the importance of ADR monitoring and reporting. She said that all healthcare professionals, including clinicians, dentists, pharmacists, nurses, and non-healthcare professionals (patients/consumers) should report ADRs as it is the moral responsibility of all to report adverse reactions associated with pharmaceutical products to safeguard public health and help in improving patient safety.

In the scientific session, Dr. Irfan Ahmad Khan (Deputy Coordinator, AMC) explained the role of ADR Monitoring Centre in the Pharmacovigilance programme.

Dr. R.S. Ray (Scientific Assistant, IPC, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India) talked about the current status of the Pharmacovigilance Programme of India.

Dr. Sharique Alam (Assistant Professor, Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, ZADC) and Dr. Mohd Kalim Ansari (Assistant Professor, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, ZADC) jointly talked about the significance of Pharmacovigilance in oral and dental health.

A session on “Hands on training to fill ADR Form” was conducted by the AMC team for all participants.

Zainab Rauf, BDS 3rd year student secured first position in Pharmacovigilance Quiz, while Dr. Iffat (MDS 1st year) secured second position in the competition organized for dental students.

Prof Wasim Rezvi Chairman Department of Pharmacology, Dr Jameel Ahmad and Mr Gufran Ali, Pharmacovigilance Associate, played an active role in organizing the CME.

Dr Bushra Hasan Khan extended a vote of thanks, while Dr Vibhu Pandey and Dr Pragya Hangma, Junior Residents conducted the proceedings.
