DC Jammu lauds contribution of College in Swachhta campaign
JAMMU : Government College of Education, Canal Road has been conferred with “One District One Green Champion Award” by Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education (MGNCRE), Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India, for its contribution towards Swachhta Education and Practice.
The award, given to only one institution per district, was announced recently. Several higher educational institutions participated in the ‘One District One Green Champion’ Award announced by MGNCRE and Government College of Education Jammu has carved out a niche as the “Green Champion of Jammu district”.
Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Anshul Garg presented the award to the Principal of the College, Dr Kulvinder Kour at an online ceremony held this evening at a district-level cluster workshop on Swachata Action Plan conducted through Google Meet. Dr Pallavi Kaul of Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India, was the Resource Person.
The Deputy Commissioner felicitated the Principal and expressed happiness over the hard work of the college which led to its bagging the award. He hoped that all the higher education institutions will work towards achieving the goals of the Swachhta Programme.
Congratulating the students and the staff particularly the NSS volunteers led by Programme Officer Dr Shubhra Jamwal, Principal Dr Kulvinder Kour said that the award acknowledges and promotes successful endeavours and initiatives of the College which focus on sustainable development of the nation. She added that the college has always mobilized resources for various pro-environment programmes, such as cleanliness and plantation campaigns in and around the campus and the students are always motivated to exuberantly participate in these programmes.
Dr Pallavi Kaul, Resource Person, spoke on the necessity to implement Swachhta Action Plan and how higher education institutions can play a lead role in this regard. She also highlighted benefits for the higher education institutions under the Swachhta Action Plan.
