Baramulla: The District Development Commissioner (DDC) Baramulla, Bhupinder Kumar today kick-started the plantation drive in Baramulla district during which a number of saplings were planted in the premises of Dak Bunglow Baramulla.
SSP Baramulla also planted a sapling on the occasion.
The DDC during the event appealed to all the departments to participate in the drive so that a good number of trees are planted to maintain the green environment in the entire district which is important for a healthy society and also to avoid diseases.
SSP on the occasion suggested planting willow trees instead of poplar and other kind of trees which are hazardous for health.
Earlier, the DDC convened a meeting of the officers of various departments during which he explained the importance of plantation drive. He enjoined upon the officers to be part of the programme and make the plantation of maximum number of saplings in the premises of their offices and institutions.
It was informed in the meeting that a good number of various kinds of trees have been targeted to be planted in various government offices, schools, panchayat ghars, and other institutions in the district during this season.
SSP Baramulla Abdul Qyoom, Joint Director Planning, Chief Education Officer besides other officers of various other functionaries were present in the meeting.
