Department of Orthopaedic Surgery organises lecture on Arthroscopy

Aligarh : The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, JN Medical College, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organised a lecture on arthroscopy by Dr. Rajeev Raman, an internationally acclaimed arthroscopy specialist from AMRI Hospital, Kolkata.

Prof. Abdul Qayyum Khan, Chairperson of the Department presided over the lecture.

The guest speaker showcased recent advancements in arthroscopic surgery, particularly for shoulder joint conditions such as rotator cuff tears and recurrent shoulder dislocations.

Dr. Raman’s presentation delved into innovative techniques for graft harvesting in knee arthroscopy surgeries, highlighting the Quadriceps tendon graft and Peroneus graft harvesting methods.

He said that these approaches are especially advantageous for young athletes with ACL injuries who aspire to continue their sports careers.

The session, chaired by Prof. Veena Maheshwari, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, and Prof. M. K. Sherwani, drew several orthopaedic surgeons from Aligarh, providing a platform for them to engage with cutting-edge research in arthroscopic surgery.

The event also served to motivate Residents to embrace the latest developments in minimally invasive surgical techniques for treating sports-related injuries such as recurrent shoulder dislocations, rotator cuff tears, and ACL injuries.
